How I describe my work

I am a Counselling Psychologist in independent practice, working with assessment and evidence based interventions for anxiety, depression, adjustment difficulties, behavioural concerns and interpersonal challenges. My approach is integrative and DSM-5 informed. In practice it looks less technical than it sounds: a quiet room, a regular hour, and someone paying close attention to what you are saying.

I do not think people need to arrive with the right words, or a clear explanation of the problem. Most of the useful work is finding those words together.

How I work in a session

I listen first, and for longer than most people expect. Once I understand what has been happening, we look at it together, at what keeps it going and what has already helped, even a little.

Where a structured approach is useful, I use one. Where what is needed is simply somewhere to think out loud, that is what the hour is for. I try not to speak in clinical language. If I use a term that does not mean anything to you, ask me and I will put it plainly.

I do not promise outcomes, and I would be careful of anyone who does. What I can say is that you will be listened to properly, and that we will work at a pace you can manage.

Approaches I use

  • CBT, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. Working with the thoughts that drive how you feel and what you do.
  • DBT, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. Skills for intense emotion, distress and steadier relationships.
  • ACT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Making room for difficult feelings and moving towards what matters to you.
  • IFT, Integrative Family Therapy. Working with the family as a whole, not just the person who came first.

Qualification

MSc Clinical Psychology. I practise as a Psychologist and Counsellor, with 4 years of experience overall and 3 years as a specialist.

Who I usually see

Adults, most often somewhere between their twenties and their fifties. Couples, sometimes together and sometimes one partner alone. Adolescents, usually brought by a parent who has noticed something change. Older adults, for loss, loneliness and the adjustments that come with a different stage of life. Families, including adoptive families.

Staying reachable between sessions

Clients can message me on WhatsApp between sessions. I am not available at every hour, and I do not do counselling by message, but if something comes up you do not have to sit with it alone until the next appointment.

If you are ever in immediate danger, please contact emergency services or go to your nearest hospital. This practice is not an emergency service.

If you would like to talk

Send a message and tell me a little about what is going on. We can find a time from there.
